Video editor

Recordings that explain themselves.

Record your screen and press Stop. The editor is already open, with a zoom placed on every click. Tidy it up, give it a look, and export.

What’s in it

Everything a screen recording needs.

  • Automatic zooms

Snappington notes your clicks while you record and places a zoom on each. Move, stretch or delete them on the timeline.

  • The look

Backgrounds, padding, rounded corners and a shadow, with an optional window or browser frame.

  • Cursor

Recorded on its own, so its style, size, smoothing and clicks can be set afterwards.

  • Camera bubble

Your webcam in a corner, full frame or side by side with the screen.

  • Audio mix

System audio and microphone on separate tracks. Set each level, or mute one.

  • Cut and arrange

Split, trim, speed up the slow bits and reorder clips.

  • Export queue

Queue several exports and keep editing: MP4, GIF, M4A, and SRT or VTT for the captions you write.

  • Any shape

Landscape 16:9, vertical 9:16, square 1:1 or portrait 4:5 from the same project.

Recording

A toolbar that stays out of the shot.

Pick a region, a window or a screen, choose your inputs, and go. Alt Shift R starts and stops; Alt Shift P pauses.

  • System audio, microphone and webcam, each on its own track.
  • Retake the last bit: throw away everything since the last pause.
  • Keystroke logging is off unless you turn it on, and stays in the project on your PC.
The recording toolbar: a 0:00 timer, a Video or GIF switch, toggles for microphone, system audio, camera and keystrokes, the region size 800 by 500, and a red Record button.

Projects

The recording is never touched.

A video project is a .snpv folder in your library. Cuts, zooms, speed changes and the look are stored as a list of edits next to the original recording, so you can change your mind about any of them later.

How projects are stored

Honest limits

Not in yet.

So you don’t find out halfway through a project.

  • Automatic captions. You can write captions and export them as SRT or VTT, but there’s no transcription yet.
  • Keystroke overlays. Shortcuts can be logged, but the editor doesn’t draw them on the video yet.
  • Hosted share links. Send the file to Slack, Google Drive, OneDrive or your own server instead.
  • macOS. Windows 10 and 11 for now.

Record something worth watching.
